Meditation refers to a state in which the body is consciously relaxed and hence the mind gets focused. Most of the religions advice meditation in some form or the other.
Meditation on its own need not be a religious or spiritual activity. A prayer or worship may also be considered a form of meditation, wherein the devotee turns spiritual thoughts over in the mind and engages the brain in higher thinking processes.
